Are you looking to get rid of your stretch marks, but you don’t know how? Radiofrequency microneedling could be worth a shot, and we are pleased to offer it here at SA Aesthetics in Sarasota, Florida.
Here’s what you need to know about one of today’s most effective, all-natural, aesthetic treatments.
How Microneedling Works for Stretchmarks
Collagen and elastin are two naturally occurring proteins that give your skin its strength, suppleness, and hydration. Both decrease with aging and certain health conditions, but they can be effectively reinvigorated with microneedling.
Microneedling is also referred to as collagen induction therapy because it is what it exactly does: promote collagen production. The procedure involves an aesthetic specialist pricking your skin with very fine, sterilized needles to cause microtrauma in it. The microscopic injuries are what signal your body to marshal its healing mechanisms— stimulating new collagen formation and ultimately helping eliminate your stretch marks.
Nonetheless, it is important to take note that microneedling is not a quick fix. It involves gradual changes, which means you can’t expect to have your treatment session on Friday and notice your stretch marks gone the following day. It can take up to six weeks to see improvement and up to several months to achieve your desired outcome. You may also need several sessions, which can be done every two to four weeks, depending on your skin’s condition.
Contraindications
While microneedling is a very safe procedure, it is not suitable for everyone. If you have any of the following circumstances or conditions, you may not be qualified for microneedling:
- You have a skin infection.
- You have active acne.
- You have sensitive skin.
- You have an open wound.
- You have an autoimmune skin condition (e.g., psoriasis).
- You are pregnant or lactating.
- You are undergoing cancer treatment, particularly radiation therapy.
Side Effects
As with any cosmetic procedure, microneedling has its risks, albeit these are very rare. It also has a few side effects, but these are mild and temporary. These include the following:
- Bruising
- Discomfort
- Dryness and redness
- Flaking of the Skin
- Swelling
